Abby has been assigned to work in a group for one of her courses. She is happy to be put in a group with Harinder since they are now friends. The other group member, Olu, is someone Abby has hardly noticed in class since she has her video off much of the time. The group must work on creating a presentation that will be delivered over Zoom next week. Abbys group will need to use the work period offered as well as to schedule a few other meetings to make sure the presentation is completed.

During their first meeting, Olu seems to talk over Abby. She wants to make sure they get a high mark on the assessment and has her own ideas on what they must do to get this. While Abby agrees with this goal, she believes that all three of them will need to share their ideas to be successful, and to do this, they must all be willing to listen to each others perspectives. When Abby makes this suggestion, Olu looks frustrated and says she doesnt think there is time to consider various options, but that they instead should make a plan for moving forward immediately.

Abby tries to remain calm and focused. She attempts to use the active listening strategies she recently learned in class to help move their group forward effectively.
