Abstract

How can organizations create a motivating work setting?

Creating algorithms that make searches on Google the most efficient in the industry while keeping costs low is a consuming passion for Googles employees (known as Googlers.) To achieve these results Googlers are given the flexibility and autonomy to experiment, take risks, and sometimes fail as long as they learn from their failures. While Google has grown exponentially, it still has an aura of an informal small company where highly motivated Googlers work on projects to achieve organizational objectives. Employees are encouraged to develop and utilize multiple skills and bring diverse talents to their tasks.

Case Questions:

Q.1: Visit Google web site and collect the needed information about the company. Then answer the following questions:

a) What innovative methods do you think Google uses to ensure that employees have a motivating work setting?

b) In your opinion, what other motivational strategies can motivate employees, other than those adopted by Google?

c) Evaluate the effectiveness of applying google motivational strategies in Gulf businesses.
