According to St. Augustine, it is impossible to be happy without God. And yet, Friederich Nietzsche argues that it is impossible to be happy with God! In other words, St. Augustine and Friederich Nietzsche hold polar opposite positions on the role that God plays in the good life. For St. Augustine, one must establish a loving relationship with God to be happy, whereas for Nietzsche, having a relationship with God castrates the will-to-power, resulting in a miserable and unnatural existence. Question: where do you stand on this issue? Based upon your own personal experiences of the world, does having a relationship with God improve ones happiness in this life?
