ACCT-302: Where should we start? Cars?
Bob: , Cars are obviously important. We own about 1000 cars at the moment, spread across our different locations. The number of cars per location changes frequently depending on whether we acquire new cars, whether we sell cars, where cars are returned and transferred, etc.
ACCT-302: Wow, that's a lot of information. Let's start with the acquisition process. How do you acquire your cars?
Bob: Well, we acquire cars in two different ways: purchase and leasing. We purchase and lease from the same vendors and our choice depends on the conditions (discounts) we receive. We often buy or lease twenty cars at the same time. There is at least one car per purchase. The same car can be purchased only once. Even when we lease more than one car at once, we request a separate lease contract per car. We only lease cars; we don't lease anything else. A lease can always be extended by a new lease contract. We have a Volvo that we leased three years ago and we just re-leased it for another two years (another lease contract). Some cars we buy (purchase) are brand new; i.e., we never leased them before. We buy some cars at the end of their lease contract. Often, we decide not to purchase the cars we have leased. We bought some BMWs yesterday (3 series). We hope to start renting them by the end of next week.
