ACTIVITY 2: INSTRUCTIONS Selective listening is the act of hearing and interpreting only parts of a message that seem relevant to you, while ignoring or devaluing the rest. Often, selective listeners will form arguments before they've heard the full story, making them not only poor listeners but poor speakers too! A good listener should be present for the entire discussion, not just selective parts. 1. Watch TED Talk: 5 Ways to Listen Better - https://www.ted.com/talks/julian_treasure_5_ways_to_listen_better 2. Research the concept of selective listening on the internet. Write a 500-word essay on selective listening. Describe an experience where you employed or observed selective listening in a personal or professional environment. Address the effect of selective listening on others in one-on-one environments, in team environments and during meetings. Discuss what strategies one can employ to reduce the tendency to engage in selective hearing. Be sure to use course content and address key points on what you have learned in the course on listening. Requirements: Minimum 500 words (excluding title page and reference list); 12-point Times New Roman Font and double-spaced.
