On Wednesday September at approximately h I was conducting a VFL Visible Field Leadership at Transport department and saw a white Toyota Hilux with a long trailer fully loaded with tires. I asked the people who were securing the load where they are taking the tires. Mr Mpho Tjia who accompanied us during VFL told us that the tires have expired, and they are taken out for recycling. I further requested him to show us how he identify the expiry date on the tyre and he did. I then asked the driver how will I know that he is not going to sell the tires to the community, He said he will not do that because it will be dangerous and the tire may bust and hurt other road users. They then asked me to sign the external waybill for them knowing that all recycling materials go through the weigh bridge before they exit the mine.
