Question:
After an internal survey in your department at a pharmaceutical factory you find that a number of employees who work mixing chemicals to make ibuprofen report doing work outside of the scope of their job description and have complained they are regularly expected to perform leadership responsibilities they have not been trained for, such as teaching new employees, managing breaks and repairing equipment. They complain that their team leader does not manage them well, and that they need more support from management. You check their employee records and discover the complaining employees are all on the same team, and a quick check of their clock-in and clock-out schedules reveal they do more overtime than the other teams on that shift to get the same amount of work done.
As a supervisor of this and several other teams, how would you respond to this situation? What can you do to help improve this team's performance?
