After watching the video, please think about your own life. What way have you been classically conditioned? Think of any fears or other immediate emotional reactions you have had. Were they related to an experience in your life? Do you have a taste aversion? Do certain things make you automatically bring up a memory even though they seem unrelated? For example, my cousin had a boyfriend for many years when we were teens. He was such a connected part of the family that we all knew him, even though my cousin lives in Canada and I in the US. After many years of spending almost every single day together (he had moved in with the family), he came home and declared he could no longer be in the relationship and left. My cousin was devastated. One day, when we were at LAX, we were wasting time in the Duty Free area. We were smelling perfumes and she went to a cologne and smelled it. She almost collapsed in grief and stated "It smells like him!!" She was flooded with all the sadness of the breakup and was so upset, just over a smell! She had been classically conditioned to the smell of her boyfriend, but that smell now brought her so much pain after he suddenly left! True story! Please note: You must post before you can see the rest of the discussion. You cannot edit or delete your posts! After you share a way that you have been classically conditioned, please make a final statement about one of the following questions: Do you believe you are constrained by your genetic inheritance? Do you believe you were born a blank slate? Is environment more powerful than genetics? Watson felt infants weren't afraid of anything, do you believe this to be true? By the way, here's info on the true identity of Little Albert and how he died (aka Douglas Merritte)! After watching the video, please think about your own life.
