Question:
Agency refers to a relationship between two parties in which one party (the agent) is authorized to act on behalf of the other party (the principal). My example as an agent was when I became the student body president in 11th Grade.
2. What kind of agency was created? I was a part of the Student Council. The responsibility of planning activities and speaking for the student body falls on the student government of a school. Within their limits, student government representatives have the power to act as the body's agents by choosing policies and carrying out activities on behalf of the student body. CREATION AND TERMINATION OF AGENCY RELATIONSHIPS > Consensual agency partnerships need the principal's approval before the agent may act on their behalf. In the framework of student administration, peers usually elect or select students who freely choose to take part in student government events. The student body's approval for these persons to serve as their representatives is demonstrated by their candidacies, elections, and appointments.
3. Were there any problems or issues that occurred with the agency? A communication problem arose with the agency. Misunderstandings and distrust may result from the student government members' lack of open contact with the larger student group. It had the effect of lowering participation, eroding trust in the student government, and making it more difficult to fairly reflect the interests and viewpoints of the student population. One of the events that I oversaw was a Run For A Cause. A miscommunication with one of our agents left us short on water to provide to the runners. This was not verified again prior to the commencement of the race. DUTIES OF THE AGENT TO THE PRINCIPAL The agent's duties to the principal include:
> the obligation of faithful service, called the duty of good faith.
> the duty to be loyal to the principal and to protect the principal's best interests.
> the duty to follow all lawful instructions as long as doing so does not subject
> the agent to an unreasonable risk of injury and the instructions are in the course and scope of the agency.
> the duty to act as a reasonably careful agent would be under the same circumstances. In order to address this issue and fulfill my obligation to the principal as an agent, I went ahead and utilized our student council funds to purchase additional water during the race at the convenience shop nearby. We were able to provide water even though it was late, and the teachers, parents, and children were happy.
