AHP Assignment
Step 1: Identify a decision that you would like to make (could be fictional or real life) and
Step 2: Decide on 3 (or more) criteria/attributesthat will be used to make the decision. There must be at least 1 criterion that is not directly measurable and requires you to use qualitative pairwise comparisons. There must be at least 1 criterion that is directly measurable where the higher the number, the better. There must be at least 1 criterion that is directly measurable where the lower the number, the better.
Step 3: Then identify 3 (or more) alternativesthat you will consider for the decision.
Step 4: Use AHP to calculate an overall weighted score for your 3 or more alternatives
You can do the calculations for this assignment on a spreadsheet/calculator, however, you must show the AHP analysis including setting up the math on a neatly hand-written page that you will turn in for the assignment. I have posted in the Files folder a sub-folder titled AHP. In it you will find an example problem and solution. Use the solution as a template on writing up your own AHP problem analysis. It should be clear in your write up what your criteria weights are, what you alternatives are and what the overall weighted score for each alternative is.
Example decisions:
- Choose a residence to purchase
- Criteria: purchase price (lower number is better), local public school score (higher number is better), ambiance (qualitative pair-wise comparisons)
- Alternatives: 1) Condo on Woodward across from LCA, 2) Colonial two-story home in Troy, MI and 3) Old farmhouse on 20 acres near Romeo, MI
- Choose a vacation spot to celebrate 5-year anniversary next February 2022
- Criteria: cost (lower is better), average temperature (higher is better), fun factor of activities available (qualitative pair-wise comparisons)
- Choose what car to purchase next
- Choose what fitness club to join
