I feel that the Hygiene Theory is given much attention despite not being supported by research because most people can identify with the theory by examining their work environment. Some of the examples are even tangible things that can be seen and I feel this makes people put more stock in a theory. If you asked most people, they could probably name several aspects of their work environment that they enjoy and conversely, several aspects that they do not like or could be improved upon. These hygiene factors are probably why some people leave or stay at their places of business. The motivational factors tend to be how employees are treated at work in this theory. Do you receive praise? Do they have growth opportunities? Are they valued? Do they value their work? These are very subjective and no organization can have 100% positive responses but failure to fulfill these motivational factors may lead to job dissatisfaction
