All organizations have explicit or implicit strategies at each level (corporate, business, functional). For this assignment we will focus on corporate and business level strategies. As noted in the textbook, corporate strategy deals with determining what businesses the corporation will operate. Corporate strategies (found in the textbook) tend to focus on whether the organization is trying to become larger, smaller, stay stable, or operate different business types. Business strategy (also located in the textbook) deals with how the firm will compete in each market where it conducts business. Will they offer products for lower prices than everyone else or will they compete based on the quality, or perceived quality, of their products and services?
Identify 5 companies and discuss which corporate strategy and which business strategy best represents what the company is doing. Briefly explain your answer.
Example: Walmart. Corporate strategy is growth (constantly expanding into new areas) and business strategy is cost leadership (offering the lowest cost when compared with competitors).
