An IT administrator wishes to develop a regression model for predicting the prognosis of long$-$term recovery of data and restoration of access to a network after a ransomware attack. The predictor variable to be utilized is number of hours that the ransomware was active on the network prior to detection $($X$),$ and the response variable is a prognostic index for long$-$term recovery $($Y$),$ with large values of the index reflecting a better prognosis.
