In a previous marriage, my wife worked for a cell phone franchise operation (not a retail chain). A policy on how they paid was a huge issue that we faced. If you sold a cell phone, you made $60, to be paid at the end of the month, on top of the roughly minimum wage you made while working. However, if a customer broke their 2 year contract within 6 months, you would lose your commission. The issue that caused was you could get a $60 commission in January, but then lose it 5 months after you were paid for it. Ifi'when that happened, they took it out of the month's commission bonus that you earned. For example, if you sold two phones in April, but 3 people from January broke their contracts, you owed $60 at the end oprril, taken out of your hourly wages you earned. A policy like that, led to many issue for my family at the time, (and later, my brother's family when his wife took the same kind of job despite the warnings)
