- Plan, research, and apply analytical business report writing skills.
- Utilize quality research to make well-supported arguments.
- Demonstrate the ability to write for a specific business audience.
- Create original and relevant data visualizations (charts and graphs).
- Apply APA formatting for citations.
- Evaluate information to form appropriate recommendations.
- Demonstrate the ability to be an effective member of a group/team, when applicable.
Format of Analytical Report. Please read the chapters related to Report Writing and Graphics (Chapters 10-11, 5) and use these as guidelines for formatting your report. Appendix B will help with report documentation. These chapters provide information that will assist you in maximizing your potential for an acceptable grade. This written report will be graded using the Analytical Report Rubric found in Blackboard.
Report Contents. This analytical report should be similar to the A Long, Formal Report example at the end of Chapter 11, but likely longer in length. You will follow the APA format for your references/sources.
At a minimum, your report should include the following sections:
- Title page
- Table of contents
- List of tables and figures
- Executive summary
- Introduction
- Rationale
- Methods
- Data collection procedures, research method
- Definition of terms (if applicable)
- Findings (you may have a more descriptive title for this part of the report)
- This is the body of your report. You will create appropriate sub-sections to organize this part of the report and create compelling arguments that inform and justify your recommendations.
- Recommendations
- Conclusion
- References (should correspond to your in-text citations) using the 7th Edition of the APA Style Manual. Appendix at the back of your text contains examples of correct format
- Appendix if appropriate
Report Components. As a guide, your report should include:
- Minimum of 4000 words (intro through conclusion, note this excludes the executive summary and references)
- Use single-spacing (double-space between paragraphs)
- We know single-spacing does not follow APA standards. However, this is a trend in business and for this assignment we will require a single-spaced report.
- All required sections
- Minimum of 10 credible sources At least five professional or research journals published within previous 12 months.
- Minimum of three-color charts/graphs and two tables in the report (charts/graphs must be in color, must be original and created by the student)
