Imagine you are doing a deep rhetorical analysis of your topic before you begin writing. You are thinking about your purpose, your angle, your audience, the contexts, and the form. When you get to the idea of "purpose," you think, "Well, that's easy!" You write down $"$so I don't fail," then quickly move on to the next rhetorical category.
