Answer the question with a substantive post - see the syllabus for a definition of "substantive" as well as the grading criteria for discussion. . Regular and Substantive Interaction in this Course In this class, you should expect to have regular and scheduled interactions with the instructor that help the instructor monitor your academic engagement and support your academic progress. Scheduled interactions include: Online discussions and Dropbox assignments. In addition, you should expect to have substantive interactions with the instruction to support your learning. Substantive interactions include: Individualized feedback and Instructor facilitated online discussions about content or concepts. You are required to participate in online discussions, which will concentrate on the theory and content of the course. The purpose of these online discussions is to facilitate interaction and learning from each other. You are responsible for reading and responding to each other's comments and building on each other's ideas by making "substantive" postings. "Substantive" means adding value to the discussion, not just restating something already said or posing an "I agree" note. Depending on what is happening in the discussion, you may want to consider trying to focus the dialogue, or you may help your fellow students expand and deepen the conversation. Some ideas for helping focus a discussion are to identify the direction the conversation is heading, or consider which concepts seem to be the most relevant to the discussion. If you decide the conversation is overly focused on straightforward issues, you may want to broaden the conversation by exploring assumptions, questioning cause and effect, or suggesting actions that might follow from a given concept. Or, you might make some non-obvious connections between concepts, or may reflect on a different perspective on an issue being discussed, by courteously challenging a comment from a fellow student that is contradicted by your experience. Whenever possible, provide evidence or support for your claims, either through examples from the text, examples from current events, or examples from your experience. For each online discussion topic, you are expected to make an initial post of no less than 300 words.
