Applied Memo:

Learning how to effectively distill a large amount of information into a manageable form is a critical skill in public service (and life in general). In addition, applying what you have learned in this class to real life public management scenarios and developing recommendations for how to move forward addressing the particular public management dilemmas examined is a fundamental learning objective in this class.

Guidelines

You can address the memo to the instructor. The basic idea is not to write a fictional story, but a three to five-page (single spaced) summary which describes or correlates a specific event, circumstance or construct that the student has observed in their daily routine or organization that resonates with that particular Modules reading. An easy example would be for the student to discuss their current company or Agencys organizational chart/model for a Module covering Structure, the student would address their perspective organizations Structure in reference to Hill & Lynn and/or the appropriate covered articles from Module I or Module II. For full credit, students should not merely state or provide an example, but synthesize the ideas and concepts into the coherent theme. Your ability to apply key ideas, terms and concepts will be the major criteria for evaluating the memorandum. Also citing appropriate references are essential for full credit. You will be also graded on your spelling, grammar and mechanics.
