- Artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining popularity quickly in organizations and has penetrated areas such as hiring and decision making. A new Silicon Valley start-up is pushing the boundary even further. Using latest technology, the company will install cameras at open workspaces (not private places such as restrooms) to capture employees daily emotions, which feed into AI algorithms to predict their future performance and turnover, among other metrics. Such insight would also be used, in combination with other objective data, to determine promotion considerations to mid-level leadership position, replacing the traditional promotion interviews with senior managers. The founder of the company believes that this plan could enable the company to intervene early to help employees perform better, identify and retain the talent.
