As a new case manager, I will have to rely heavily on the resources my department and co-workers have. Being brand new and working in a neighboring city that I do not know well makes having those connections coming in unrealistic. Luckily, I have found in our line of work co-workers, supervisors, and community support programs want to share their knowledge and resources. Children, Youth, and Families (where I work) allow representatives from local treatment centers, specialized counseling centers, and equine therapy centers, to come in and present their information at staff meetings. They can share what they do, and who their therapies are for, and they provide information on what insurance they take and if grants are available. Having them come in and talk to us as a group is extremely helpful as we can ask questions, get handouts, and direct phone numbers. It also helps us to be able to offer diverse resources to our clients, that we may not have known existed in the area.
