Question: As a structural engineer, your task is to design an optimum section that has sufficient resistance to the applied loading for the primary beam proposed

As a structural engineer, your task is to design an optimum section that has sufficient resistance to the
applied loading for the primary beam proposed in Figure 1. A UB in grade S275 steel is required for the
primary beam to carry loads over a span of 8.xYZm. The beam is restrained by the secondary beams at C
with fin connection at the web and the beams do not support any slabs. The reactions from the secondary
beams are given as F. The depth of the primary beam must not exceed 425mm. Choose an optimumUB
section and justify your selection.
You are required to submit a design analysis by considering bending, shear, transyerse force, and deflection
checking for the selected member based on Eurocode 3 and the assumption of support condition and loading
must be clearly stated.
Submission of written calculation and spread sheet is required. Replace xYZ with the last 3 digit of your
studentID.
Note: if your ID is CE 0101234;x=2,Y=3,Z=4
Beam span is 8xYZmm; span AC, CB are equally spaced. You can round up the figure if necessary. e.g:beam
span is 8234mm,AC=CB=4117mm
F:Gk=3xkN,Qk=3YkN; e.g: F:Gk=32kN,Qk=33kN
W:Gk=2xkNm,Qk=2YkNm; e.g: W:Gk=22kNm,Qk=23kNm
Note: Please state your ID and the replaced figures clearly. What matters most are the calculation steps
rather than the replacement of XYZ, X=1,Y=2,Z=3
Please keep in mind that the sloution should be based on Eurocode
