As a sysadmin, you will set up and provide resources for your organization and its users. We've covered
most of the common ones in this course. YaST often makes this simple. These resources/services aren't
simply "set and forget". They often require oversight.
In this final assignment you will create remote access resources and monitor them.
The services involved for this assignment are DHCP and SMB. Services will require a server and a client.
The easiest way to handle DHCP is to use the DHCP server built into the VirtualBox Manager. You are
free to setup and configure your own DHCP server, though. I suggest using your Linux VM as the SMB
server and your (host) computer as the client. In both cases, two VMs will work too (but, of course, this
will require more hardware resources on your host).
You will configure your VM machine, as the client, to get a dynamically assigned IP address. The address
will be the first host address available from the RFC1918 defined class B range. Using a packet capture
tool (such as tcpdump), you will record the network communications for this.
You will also provide an SMB share to a remote host (such as your host computer). On the client, save a
copy of the course syllabus PDF. Separately capture this exchange on your VM, too.
No later than 11:59,12/4, submit to Brightspace the two (parsimonious) packet capture files:
the first will be from the DHCP client and include the four stages of your DHCP lease assignment,
the second will be on the SMB server and have the PDF (that can be exported) stored via SMB.
You can test your captures before submission with a tool such as Wireshark. USE OPENSUSE 15.6 LINUX VM HOST MACHINE AND WINDOWS 11 AS CLIENT MACHINE.
As a sysadmin, you will set up and provide
