Question:
As an investor, you are very curious on Amazon's progress from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to the current date. You decide to visit Yahoo Finance to pull the historical data to get a snapshot at the average high vs. low stock price correlating with that particular month. Please do the following:
- Visit Yahoo! Finance
- Look up the Ticker symbol for Amazon (hint. it's AMZN)
- Go to the historical data and pull everything from March 15th, 2020 - to December 31, 2020.
- Export this detail into Excel.
- Show a Pivot Table from this data. Structure your table so that your date is broken down into months from beginning to end.
- Add values to your Pivot Table so that you are able to see the corresponding stock price associated with each date for that given month. Your first value should be the "High" for that particular date.
- Set your value so that is the "Average of the High."
- Now that you have done this, do the same thing for the "Low" for that given month. You should see the low associated with each date and average this out as well.
- For the last step, go ahead and add in your "Close" for the stock on that date. Average this out and compare. Which month did we see the biggest increase in average for our "highs?" What about for the "lows?" Can you find supplemental data supporting a particular reason for a month outperforming or underperforming?
