As I implement the capstone project, I feel that servant leadership is still the best approach for this project and for my team. Due to the dynamics and relationship of our employees and leaders, servant leadership principles are important in minimizing the division that is currently impeding the ,potential growth of our members. Rothermel and Lamarsh (2014) provide a very realistic and feasible framework of managing change through employee empowerment, and empowerment is a direct result of servant leadership. Jesus Christ empowered his followers through his interactions and the example he set. We know the lasting impact this had. Additionally, the two core practices of close listening and searching questions are foundational to building relationships (Tarallo, 2018). These are areas that our organization and working relationships are missing. I am grateful for the leadership concepts, models, and theories we have learned throughout this program because there is no perfect, standard equation for leadership. What works for one may not always work for the other. Although I am still going to base my program on servant leadership principles as I had planned, I now have the tools and awareness to assess situations carefully and to be flexible in dealing with unexpected challenges along the way.
What is one principle, characteristic or trait of servant leadership that you believe is the most challenging for you to emulate, apply or put into practice?
