As part of your reflection, you may want to cover some of the following topics. You don't have to discuss all of them, and you may find that the reflection is a more interesting piece of writing if you focus on one aspect. These are simply suggestions for specific themes or starting points for your writing: • What brought you to NAIT? Why did you decide to join the JRSSB, and why did you want to start school now (if you are a new student) or last semester (if you have already studied at NAIT)? What effects will this motivation have on your plan for success as a student? Are there specific strategies that you can use to achieve your goals in this course and in the program? What are your strengths and weaknesses as a student? Are there any challenges that you anticipate in relation to these personality traits? What is your action plan to tackle some of these possible challenges? Do you anticipate that you will need help? What kinds of assistance and support could be provided by me, other resources at NAIT, and your fellow students? • What do you want to get out of the course? You may have your own personal goals that you want to achieve. Are there any aspects of reading, writing, research, or oral presentations that you've always wanted to master, or that you want to improve? What strategies will you use to ensure that you are able to develop the skills that you want to work on? • Our situation this semester is a little unusual because we are all doing all of our work online because of the pandemic. How are you feeling about online learning and student life during Covid-19? Are there any specific challenges that you anticipate because of the pandemic situation, and what is your action plan to tackle any of these issues if they arise? • We have already been through some months of strange experiences because of the pandemic. What effect have these had on your current mood, motivation, and state of health? Are you happy with your current state? Are there any issues that you need or want to tackle in order to be successful this semester? • What does success look like for you? Sometimes students judge their success by grades, but I would suggest looking at the semester in a more three-dimensional way, and considering not only WHAT you achieve, but thinking about HOW you achieve it. You will be very busy over the next few months, but there are other factors, like interpersonal relationships, physical health, mental health, and financial health, that are also important. Having interesting experiences and making memories from your time as a student might also be very important to you. How will you have fun and retain your sense of humour? How will you know if you have been successful? What will make you feel personally satisfied with the semester, even when we live in challenging times? • If you have to sum up your plans for the semester, what would be your goals? Feel free to include a numbered or bulleted list if it helps to make the reflection easier to read.
