As students, you will be asked whether your classes have enhanced your ability to think critically. As potential employees, people will ask whether you are a critical thinker. As employees, your ability to grow with the company, or even stay with the company, may be dependent on your ability to think critically. So$,$ what exactly is this very important skill?

Google "critical thinking" and see what happens. Everyone has their own ideas of what it is but everyone agrees that it is a necessary skill. We don't tend to think about it in terms of information systems, but the ability to create systems or databases, network efficiencies, anticipate the next bleeding edge, and maintain competitive advantage with technology are all areas where critical thinking is important.

Critical thinking is important. It enhances creativity and produces more efficient and effective projects. It can't be memorized $-$ so it helps you learn to put concepts together and learn how they work, rather than just memorizing terms. It applies to all classes and almost all situations but is particularly important to the project in this class. In short, it could be a class itself $-$ if it could be taught.

It can't be taught, but suggestions as to how to train yourself to think critically are available. This assignment is to find a website that describes critical thinking in a way that makes sense to you. In a document, embed the URL to the website, and write one page, double spaced, about the page and why it is helpful to you. Give me an example of a skill you can develop or enhance to improve your critical thinking skills. Pretend that I am a potential employer, and the only thing between you and the job of your dreams is this exercise. I guarantee you that this subject will come up with potential or current employers, and this is a start to developing a concise response to the conversation. Get thinking!
