As we continue to learn about public speaking and how we go about crafting and delivering a speech, we need to think about why we speak and what to do if asked to speak. As you are learning, our general purpose is the reason you speak. When asked in the business world to give a speech, the general purpose is the first decision you should make followed by the central purpose, which morphs into a central idea.
