"Ask Effective Research Questions" in Chapter $6($the first step of "Seven Best Practices for Any Text$-$Based Research Process"$),$ as well as "Searching for Sources" in Chapter $8.$ You might also find it helpful to watch this short video on how to use Academic Search Premier$/$Complete$,$ a library database, for research purposes. Then, write down your responses to each of the steps below, as you complete them:

Spend $5-10$ minutes brainstorming and freewriting about possible issues that you are interested in learning more about: These issues might be related to your own experiences, or they might be related to larger challenges that you have observed around you or have learned about in the news. Keep your options open. You should generate a list of $5-10$ possible issues, with some freewriting to explain each one.

Develop open$-$ended questions related to these issues: Referring back to "Ask Effective Research Questions" in Chapter $6,$ try to write one effective question for each topic you brainstormed; you should have $5-15$ questions to complete this step. Develop questions that will connect the issue with a specific community $($your home community, the Fargo$-$Moorhead community, or another one that you are involved in$).$

Choose one of the topics and generate a list of keywords for each topic and the questions related to the topic: Use the tips from the video to help you think creatively about keywords that might work for a search related to one of the topics. As you develop possible keywords, feel free to revise or add to the questions related to the topic. Remember to include keywords that will link the issue to a specific community.

Conduct a search using Google or a library database and the keywords you brainstormed: Draw from the tips in "Searching for Sources" in Chapter $8$ to assist you with your search. Document where you looked, what

keywords you used, the number of results for each search, and how relevant the results seemed to be$.$ Note whether or not the results are clearly connected to a specific community, and if not, why you think they might not be $-$ what might you change in your search process to find results related to a specific community?
