Assessment Center Project (counts as 2 regular projects toward final grade)
Team Project (Students may work in groups up to 3 on this project, turn in one project with all names on
it)
Developing a complete and welldesigned assessment center is a lengthy and timeconsuming process.
This little exercise completely misrepresents the thought and effort that goes into a good AC. However,
the purpose of this exercise is to give you a feel for how the Assessment Center is structured and how
simulations and other predictors fit into the overall structure of an AC.
In this exercise, we are considering the job of a college student.
1. First you will need to decide on a selection AC or a development AC.
2. You will need to come up with three dimensions of academic job performance that you think are
important.
3. You will then need to select at least three simulations and describe their content and structure. You
may also add tests or interviews as you wish.
4. You will then describe what are they, what happens in them, and what do you think they will tell you
about people so that you can either pick the best students or develop the skills of the assessed
students? In other words, explain why your AC and its simulations are a good choice. Note: Be sure to
select and structure these simulations so that you get some information from at least one, preferably
two, simulations for each of the different performance dimensions you will want to predict.
5. Explain how data will be combined to form an overall judgment of the assessee.
You may need to attach additional sheets. Use the grid to show what simulations contribute to
information about what aspects of performance.
