Assessment Details This Coursework comprises 30% of the total assessments marks. It contains one component of coursework. This will develop the following skills: • Analytical skills. The analysis enables the students to analyse and evaluate the performance of the capital structure. This skill will eventually help them evaluate the options necessary to make decisions in the workplace. In addition, the assessment will test the following learning outcomes: Apply relevant knowledge and skills in making decisions relating to investment, financing, capital structure. • Calculate and interpret investment ratios & other performance measures. • Estimate costs of various sources of medium & long term finance & a company's WACC. Assessment Task This assignment requires you to prepare a 1200 - word report on performance analysis of financial statements and as structured below. Task 1: (800 words) The Non-Financial Public Companies include Government-owned Companies and Legal bodies that operate mainly across Oman. Perform ratio analysis of a publicly listed Non-Financial Company from the power & energy and Telecom Industries using their latest two years Financial statements. a. Discuss briefly the history of a Company. b. Compare and contrast the Income statement and the Balance sheet of the company through Common Size analysis for the two years. c. Calculate the company key Financial ratios for the evaluation of profitability and investment position for the two years. d. Critically appraise the financial performance and financial position of the Company in all two areas. Task 2: (400 words) The combination of debt capital and equity capital maximises the value of the company's shareholder's wealth. a. Discuss the main two theories of capital structure with assumptions. b. Critically evaluate the alternative sources of long term capital showing the effect of capital structure decisions on the shareholder's wealth.
