The role of an early childhood educator is to ensure that a curriculum program enhances each child's learning and development. Why? Because children are uniquely different as much as they are similar. Each child has a unique background, context, a different life history and future story to tell, which means educators need super-powers of adaptability, flexibility and skills to adapt programs to support each child to thrive.

This is why the National Quality Standard Quality Areas recommend that all educational programs and practice are stimulating and engaging, to enhance children's learning and development. Element 1.1.2 of Quality Area 1, Standard 1.1 requires each child's current knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests to be the foundation of any program. To achieve this, educators need to have continuous interaction among themselves, with every child and their family, to inform their educational programs.
