Assignment 1 - 25% Part One Case Study: The San Diego Zoo The world-famous San Diego Zoo is a major venue for meetings, events, and corporate programs. To capitalize upon their over-100-year history, the San Diego Zoo has created a Zoofari Party Area to host social events for up to 500 guests. During the Zoofari experience, guests may actually have a close encounter with one of the wild animals (under the close eye of a trained keeper) and even have their photo snapped as a special memory of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The zoo staff invite their special corporate guests to go behind the scenes and onto the rooftop of the gorilla house to learn how gorilla families bond with one another and see how these principles may be transferred to human organizations. The San Diego Zoo also attracts many weddings to their exotic venue in a themed approach, called Weddings in the Wild. The wedding business for the zoo continues to grow year upon year, as more and more brides and grooms seek unusual destination locations for their nuptials without the cost or time required for travel to far-flung locations such as Africa. The San Diego Zoo desires to continue to increase both its social and corporate group business and more closely link these visitors to their overall mission of education and conservation. 1. How might casual visitors to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park be encouraged to hold their future weddings, corporate, and other events within the venue and to become members and supporters in the future?
