Assignment 1 - Notebook (15%) This assignment relates to the following Course Learning Requirements: CLR 1 - Extract and gather information utilizing professional and ethically accepted interviewing techniques as defined by law CLR 2 - Select the most appropriate technique in a variety of situations in order to extract information CLR 3 - Apply Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms provisions and rules of case law references when making and using notes, gathering evidence and information from persons of various places in jeopardy to ensure the admissibility of those statements CLR 4 - Apply basic communication skills (both verbal communication and non-verbal communication) in the area of listening and speaking while having the ability to recognize the significance of body language and environment in the interview process CLR 5 - Record investigative notes in compliance with legal and ethical standards CLR 6 - Identify appropriate sources of information relative to investigate needs CLR 7 - Progress through the basic sequentialsteps of an investigation CLR 8 - Construct and apply descriptive factors for identification of suspects and other persons Objective of this Assignment: To demonstrate your ability to take meaningful notes in relation to the interview process. Instructions: Beginning in Week 3, assignment 1 allows students to demonstrate their properly formatted note booking skills. Over the weekend of Week 3, students are to handwrite in a notebook all activities over a 24hour period. This includes any activities, movements, job, travel, purchases, people they had contact with, following the 3P's of descriptorsfor Persons, Property and particulars, etc. On the Wednesday of week 3, students are to conduct a field interview with a family member or friend, following the questioning process of Who? What? Where? When? How? In order to obtain all information possible to ascertain what/where a family member or friend was between the hours of 8pm and 10pm that previous Saturday evening. Students will record by handwriting everything in their notebook to be scanned / emailed at the end of Week 3 to your facilitator. Please ensure you have read the course notes and textbook on proceduresfor taking notes.
