Assignment 2 Decision Making
Conestoga College MGMT8370 S24
S2024 Semester Project Charitable Event
The brainstorming sessions held by your new Conestoga fundraising group during Assignment 1
generated many fantastic ideas. Now comes the difficult part: deciding which charitable cause
will receive the fundraising money generated and what event will occur. This is particularly
challenging when working with a group of people that have different perspectives. Luckily, you
are learning about some subjective and objective tools to help with decision-making.
Your faculty advisor at Conestoga has a few more details available to help your group make
these important decisions and set the group up to manage risks related to this project.
Project Context:
The project context will help your group make important decisions. It will also support tailoring
risk management tools like the impact table and heat map to aid project risk management
activities. Every project is unique, each group will create their context. Using the information
provided in the instructions, the group will define the context by determining the project
priorities (accept, enhance, constrain), event date, project duration, baseline budget, and risk
reserve. The project will align with the scope defined.
In Scope Out of Scope
Selecting the charity
Selecting the type of event
Determining the event requirements
Planning the event
Executing (running) the fundraising
event
Managing or tracking the funds raised by
the event

Each group will begin the following tasks during the Week 4 class. Additional group working
times must be arranged by each group.
Use this checklist to make sure your assignment includes this information:

include, and identify missing members and the reasoning for the absence.
The role and contributions made by each team member for each session. (Use the

Detailed Instructions:
1. Review the instructions and rubric!
2. The group will decide how the information will be presented to your faculty member. MS
Word or MS PowerPoint (or equivalent) is acceptable. PDF format is unacceptable. Ensure
the assignment requirements are labelled and organized.
3. Create the project context by deciding on the following:
Project Priorities: Define what the group will enhance, accept, and constrain. (Hint: this
is in the Larson and Gray textbook)
Event Date: Select a date(s) before the end of the Spring 2024 semester (August 18)
Project Duration: Select between 4 and 12 weeks (must end before the event date)
Baseline Budget: Select a value between $50,000 and $400,000.
Risk Reserve: Determine the risk reserve. Pick a number between 5% and 20%.
Multiply by the baseline budget, this is the risk reserve. Show it as a percentage (%) and
dollar value i.e., $2,500.00(5%)
4. Decide on the charitable cause. Do the following:
o Randomly select 5 ideas from the assignment 1 list.
o Complete a paired comparison described in Week 3 for the 5 ideas (do not use
weighted scoring for paired comparison; marks will be deducted). Groups may vote
on each comparison and decide how ties will be determined.
o Rank the results and clearly identify the cause selected (Ranked 1st).
5. Decide on the charitable event. Do the following:
o Randomly select 5 ideas from the complete assignment 1 list.
o Complete a weighted scoring comparison as described in Week 3 for the 5 ideas.
There must be a minimum of 3 categories and a maximum of 6.
o Complete the comparison and clearly identify the charitable event that is selected.
6. Check your document for spelling, grammar, formatting, references, and ensure it aligns to
the rubric.
