This assignment and case serve as the foundation for many of the graded assignments and
practical assignments. What your group produces here is on your critical path for this course!
Throughout the semester, you will develop this idea by producing individual and group
deliverables relevant to risk management. The work you do will help to support your success in
the final test.
Group members who do not contribute to the group deliverables may receive a lower grade
than the group or even a zero. Remember that faculty observe the group interactions during
class time.
History
Growing up, your family has always had a philanthropic side. This meant supporting charitable
causes by volunteering the familys time to work for a different charity each month. Everyone in
your family, from your baby sister to your grandparents, was expected to participate. It was
hard to decide which charities to support, and your family tried to share their efforts evenly
among many charities. You were the youngest in the family, so your suggestions werent
always considered.
Fast forward 10 or 15 years, you are an adult enrolled at Conestoga College. Youve moved
away to a different city, country, or continent to embark on this adventure. You are really
missing being able to participate in charity work with your family. As you meet more and more
people at Conestoga, you find many of your classmates are in similar situations. When
discussing your similar experiences, there was much interest in creating a fundraising event to
support a Canadian charitable cause. Your new friends at Conestoga decide you will work
collaboratively to give back to your community. The first decision your group must make is
which charitable cause your group will support, followed by the type of event you will organize.Each group will complete the following tasks during the Week 3 class:
1. Review the rubric!
2. The group will decide how the information will be presented to your faculty member. MS
Word or MS PowerPoint (or equivalent) is acceptable. PDF format is unacceptable. Ensure
the assignment requirements are labelled and organized.
3. The document you hand in must include the following:
a. List of group members present (Name and student numbers), include and identify
missing members.
b. The role and contributions made by each team member.
c. A description of how the brainstorming was conducted for each session. Include the
steps/process and insights and/or commentary.
d. The results (the list of ideas generated) for each session. A minimum of 2 ideas per
group member is expected.
e. Confirmation that the charity operates in Canada. The following sites may be
helpful.
i. List of charities and certain other qualified donees - basic search (cra-arc.gc.ca)
ii. Charity Ratings and Donor Resources | Charity Navigator
iii. Donate to Canadian Charities Online | CanadaHelps
f. An insightful reflection of the activities including at minimum:
i.1 thing the group did well
ii.1 thing the group can improve on
g. References (mandatory)

Groups are arranged as directed by your faculty and should not exceed 5 people. Groups
will remain the same for the duration of the semester.
Each group will perform 2 brainstorming sessions using different techniques as instructed
by your faculty.
Brainstorming Session 1: focus on determining the charitable causes.
Brainstorming Session 2: focus on the type of event the group would like to organize.
The work for this assignment is conducted during class time in Week 3. Groups will be given
until 11:59 PM on the day after your scheduled class to refine and submit work.
Students must attend class and participate to receive grades.
This assignment must include real charities and non-profits that operate in Canada.
o Charity events must be legal and cannot be offensive in nature.
o Use the sites offered in the detailed instructions to confirm that charities are
legitimate.
o Using an online source to generate your list (instead of brainstorming) is not
acceptable.
All team members must have access to the documents and information produced, whether
they attend the class or not. Using your Conestoga OneDrive is recommended.
