Advantage of E-learning:
A lot of organizations are switching to e-learning in recent years. My place of work has been using training videos as a way of learning for years. From my own firsthand experiences, I would say one of the main advantages of e-learning would be flexibility. The ability to watch these videos either at work or from home on my own time helps make it possible to review all these resources as needed. People with hectic schedules would have the ability to learn when they have the time. This gives them the flexibility to learn around their jobs, school, family responsibilities and any other commitments. This also provides the flexibility to learn at your own speed and if an employee does not comprehend the subject they are always able to review. This way of learning also provides accessibility no matter where you are. If a person is unable to attend a class, for example due to distance, e-learning makes it possible for one to still be able to get an education. E-learning from an organizational point of view can also be more cost effective. Saving the time and money of in person training or teaching.
Disadvantages of e-learning:
One of the biggest disadvantages of e-learning from my own personal experience would be the lack of communication. When you are learning in a face-to-face environment you have the ability to get more feedback and discussion on the subject if you do not fully understand it. With e-learning you can send out emails but it may not be responded for several days and you do not have the ability to talk to your teacher or organization about the subject you are learning and may not have all the information you need in time to do your job or test. Technical difficulties could also arise. A lot of problems could happen while you are trying to learn online such as loss of internet access or weak connections, software compatibility problems may also happen due to so many different modern technologies. E-learning also gives limited ability to learn. There are no hands-on learning experiences, just reading and lectures or videos.
2. Could a 360-degree review be used to assess the performance of a bartender? Why or why not? If implemented, who should be providing feedback?
Yes, I do think a 360- degree review could be used to assess the performance of a bartender even though it may have limitations. This review involves collecting feedback from a wide range of people like supervisors, peers, and customers. This feedback would help evaluate customer service, mixologist, teamwork, and communication. Supervisor and managers could provide feedback on their overall performance, ability to follow rules and any areas that may need improvement. Peers would be able to provide feedback on teamwork, speed of service and collaboration. Customer feedback would provide information on the individual customer service, overall experience, the drinks quality and quantity and perceived cleanliness of the bar or restaurant area. Overall, a 360-degree review could be beneficial in assessing a bartender provides feedback from various sources although careful consideration should be given to the unique challenges of a bartender and the hospitality industry.
