Assignment #5-1 Objectives:

• Explain and present the type and background of the quality issue they perceive as needing to be fixed in the organization they have selected as the subject of their project.
• Give each student the ability to explain how this quality issue relates to the medical errors identified in To Err is Human, and/or to the Six Aims identified in Crossing the Quality Chasm.
• Since each student will focus on one type of organization, and, perhaps one quality challenge in his/her own project, this will help broaden students experiences to other quality issues.

Assignment #5-1 Purpose:

Since students will be conducting analysis of different organizations and different quality challenges, this assignment will give students the opportunity to learn from each other by identifying the quality issue on which they will focus for their class project. It will also give students the opportunity to explain how this issue can be related to those quality issues identified in To Err is Human or to the Six Aims identified in Crossing the Quality Chasm. In this regard, it addresses how the issue may not be one that is isolated in their organization but is identifiable in others as well.

Assignment #5-1 Description:

Following the paper written for Assignment #4-1, you will use your analysis and discussion to develop a voice-over PowerPoint or Kaltura presentation. The PowerPoint should identify the health-quality issue in the organization you identified in the organization selected in Assignment #2-1. Discuss the risks associated with it, if it is not fixed, and explain how it relates to the errors identified in To Err is Human and/or the Six Aims identified in Crossing the Quality Chasm.

• Your PowerPoint Presentation should be at least 3 slides of content.
• Use APA formatting guidelines for your presentation.
• Use voice-over PowerPoint or Kaltura. You can choose to present during the Enrichment session-which would not require a voiced-over presentation.
