In many ways Bernard Reid was representative of the typical gold rush miner.

Create a checklist with as many examples as you can that would "prove" Reid was a typical miner. Support items on the list with evidence or arguments. Look at his personal background, his journey west, and, most important, his time spent in California. Be thorough and complete. Here is one example of an entry one could make showing he was a typical miner: $$He was male, young $($in his $20$s$),$ single, and looking to make a quick fortune in California."

Make a good$-$sized descriptive list $(18$ examples would be the minimum but there could$/$should be more than that$)$ Do not list points of his life that do not relate to his time as a miner.
