Assignment Sheet: Data Analysis Email Assignment
Points: 40
Format: One properly formatted email, no more than two paragraphs, with standard font and margins, saved as a PDF and uploaded to Blackboard. Selected section(s) of your 10-K report should also be saved as a PDF and uploaded (see below).
Task:
This assignment takes the form of an email that summarizes some complex data analysis.
- First, choose a company and retrieve their most recent 10-K from the SEC. You can access these reports at SEC.gov using the EDGAR search tool.
- Carefully review the 10-K. While you do not have to read all of it, you should read enough so you can choose at least 3 tables or charts to discuss in your email. Items and areas such as Selected Financial Data and Financial Statements and Supplementary Data are worth investigating.
- Then, compose a concise (approximately two paragraphs) email in which you report findings from your review of the tables or charts you have chosen.
- The audience for this email is your manager, who has requested that you review the SEC report and send him or her a brief summary of the company, their financial picture, and their outlook.
- Remember that you have limited space (just two paragraphs) in which to present your summary. You are taking pieces of a larger report and condensing them.
- The email should have a clear central purpose and the reader should be able to easily identify your view of the company, their financials, and their outlook.
