Assignment Summary In this assignment, you will draft a thesis and create an annotated bibliography for 3 sources that you intend to use in Assignment 2c, your critical essay. You will draft a thesis - an argumentative claim - by selecting a research prompt (see the Assignment 2 Research Prompt list), brainstorming and researching, and then drafting a thesis. You will continue to edit and refine the draft thesis from Assignment 2a until you submit Assignment 2c. An annotated bibliography is a reference page (bibliography) that includes a summary (annotation) of each source. This assignment builds upon the summary skills developed through Assignment 1 by requiring you to identify the argument, key points and evidence, and conclusions of each source you have selected, and builds research skills by requiring you to locate three appropriate research sources. This assignment must be written in correct APA , including formatting, in-text paraphrase and quote citations, and references. It is important to cite all sources used for this assignment. Failing to properly cite material that is paraphrased or copied from sources that are not listed as Required Components: 1. Draft Thesis Statement A draft of the thesis you intend to use and develop while writing Assignment 2c. 2. Annotations for 3 Credible Sources. Locate three sources that will support your research. Your sources must be credible and meet the STAR quality criteria. You cannot use assigned course readings as your sources. It is preferred that you use at least two peer-reviewed sources; other credible sources could include information from Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, data from government websites, unpublished scholarly material, government documents, or credible other sources. You may use grey literature but you are limited to using only one grey literature source. Each bibliographic annotation (for each source) must include the following 4 parts: a) A proper APA reference. Each source annotation begins with a proper APA for the source, just like you would find on a page.

b) An identification of the source type. Each annotation must identify the type of source (for example: Indigenous knowledge, peer-reviewed academic article, authoritative statistics, etc.) and the "container" where the source is located, or where you found it (such as an academic journal, textbook, or government website). c) A summary of the main argument and key details. This section should be two-four sentences. Each annotation should concisely summarize the source's argument or main points, discuss at a high level key evidence (or types of evidence used in the source), and what conclusions (if any) are made. You should cite all paraphrases and quotes in your annotations, even if it is clear what source they are being taken from. d) An explanation of how you intend to use this source in your argument. This section should be one-three sentences. Why did you select this source, and how will it be useful to you in writing your essay?
