$($b$)$ A soil sample extracted from borehole at depth $0\mathrm{.}5m$ beneath ground surface was

collected in Penggarang, Johor for sub$-$base construction purpose. Data from particle

size analysis of the soil are recorded in Table Q$3($b$).$

$($i$)$ Determine the effective grain size, coefficient of uniformity and coefficient of

curvature of the soil.

$($ii$)$ Calculate the percentages of gravel, sand, silt and clay of the soil based on USCS

classification in Figure Q$3($b$)($ii$).$

$($iii$)$ Given liquid limit and plastic limit of the soil are $15\%$ and $6\%$ respectively,

classify the group symbol and group name of soil based on USCS classification

system as shown in Table Q$3($b$)($iii$)$ and Figure Q$3($b$)($iii$).$
