Background Information:

Throughout this course, we have discussed the importance of leadership - or the ability to influence people toward the attainment of goals - in achieving organizational success. We have discussed the many different approaches to leadership, the different styles, behaviors, personal characteristics, and best practices that contribute to effective leadership.

For this assignment, you will select a well-known leader from within the past 50 years, research their background, and discuss what made them successful as a leader.

Assignment Instructions:

• Research a well-known leader from within the last 50 years (they can be a leader from the business world, sports, government, etc.)

• In a 2-3 page, double-spaced, typewritten paper, discuss the background of the leader you have chosen. Explain the following:

  • What major accomplishments or contributions is the person known for?
  • How did they impact their field/industry/organization?
  • Why did you select this person?
  • What did you learn about the individual's approach to leadership or their leadership style?
  • What personal traits or characteristics did the person exhibit which contributed to their ability to lead effectively?
  • Make sure to connect the concepts we have discussed throughout the course on leadership styles, methods, and techniques to your analysis of the specific leader you have decided to write about.
• Be sure to properly cite any sources referenced, including material from the textbook, your online research, and any other works cited.
• It is expected that your paper will be written at a level consistent with college-level critical thinking. This includes supporting your assertions with facts and research. Your paper must also have a clear beginning, middle, and end, and use proper grammar and spelling throughout. Please proofread your work prior to submitting it.
