Background:

This activity will focus on "selecting" a sampling method for your practice evaluation. Selecting a sampling method for practice evaluation is usually more straightforward compared to selecting your sampling method for your program evaluation. This is because you are usually dealing with a smaller population. For example, if you currently have five clients on your caseload then your population would only be five. Theoretically, you can still use anyone of the sampling methods that you used for your program evaluation, and if you remember these include a probability (simple, systematic, stratified, or cluster) or non-probability (convenience, purposive, quota, or snowball) sampling method.

For the same reasons as a program evaluation, it is usually not practical or feasible to evaluate your entire caseload. For this reason, you would most likely evaluate one or two clients at a time to see if they are making progress. Regardless, after selecting your sampling method, you should identify your sampling plan. As mentioned earlier in the discussion for this workshop, your sampling plan is a like a recipe, as it is a detailed explanation that walks the reader through exactly how you picked your sample and implemented it.

Please use the purposive sampling method to answer the following questions and use examples for how to use it on my practice evaluation for a patient who is in medication assisted treatment for her opioid use disorder.

Opioid Abuse: Reduce or eliminate opioid or fentanyl-related opioid use.	Have the client complete the Current Opioid Misuse Measure (COMM).
Depression: Identify, challenge, and replace destructive self-talk with positive, strength-building self-talk.	Have the client complete the Countering Thought Log to recognize thoughts and experiences that elicit an unwanted response.
Maintaining Sobriety: Develop coping skills to use when experiencing cravings or high-risk situations.	Have the client complete the AWARE (Advanced Warning of Relapse) Questionnaire.

Use more examples of how this purposive sampling method will be implemented with the practice evaluation rather than discussing factual information about the sampling method itself.

1. State the chosen method and discuss why you chose this sampling method.
2. Identify and discuss one advantage and disadvantage of using this sampling method.
3. Discuss the sampling plan (exactly how the sample will be selected and implemented for your program evaluation).
