This activity will focus on "selecting" a sampling method for your practice evaluation. Selecting a sampling method for practice evaluation is usually more straightforward compared to selecting your sampling method for your program evaluation. This is because you are usually dealing with a smaller population. For example, if you currently have five clients on your caseload then your population would only be five. Theoretically, you can still use anyone of the sampling methods that you used for your program evaluation, and if you remember these include a probability (simple, systematic, stratified, or cluster) or non-probability (convenience, purposive, quota, or snowball) sampling method.
For the same reasons as a program evaluation, it is usually not practical or feasible to evaluate your entire caseload. For this reason, you would most likely evaluate one or two clients at a time to see if they are making progress. Regardless, after selecting your sampling method, you should identify your sampling plan. As mentioned earlier in the discussion for this workshop, your sampling plan is a like a recipe, as it is a detailed explanation that walks the reader through exactly how you picked your sample and implemented it.
