Barry has been working as a Software Engineer at an IT company in the western suburbs ever since graduating from University four years before. One Saturday

morning at the local market Barry bumps into Ali, a friend from his university days whom he has not seen for three$-$and$-$a$-$half years. After chatting briefly, they

arrange to meet for lunch on one of Barry's rostered days off a week later in the city near Ali's office.

Over lunch Barry and Ali talk about the old days at university and about their respective jobs. Barry learns that Ali has been working for the last two years at the

state taxation office. Ali's job is to investigate and audit companies and their employees tax affairs. Ali describes his powers under the law to enter sites looking

for violations. Barry then describes his duties as a Software Engineer within his company. Barry is aware that his company doesn't always obey the letter of the

law regarding taxes and so is careful about what he says to his friend knowing that a careless comment could be damaging to his employer. During the

conversation, Barry admits his ignorance of the details of the law, so Ali invites Barry up to his office to give him some printed booklets prepared by the

authority.

As Ali searches through his files for the booklets in his office, Ali and Barry are interrupted by the arrival of Sue, one of Ali$$s colleagues. Before she notices Barry

in the room Sue begins talking to Ali about a surprise inspection visit planned for two days$$ time to YBM$,$ a small ICT company. When she notices Barry, Sue

stops talking and excuses herself. Ali then apologizes for the interruption and explains that in two days$$ time he will be leading an unannounced visit to YBM$.$ Ali

explains that he has received a tip$-$off that YBM have been avoiding reporting some employees$$ salaries and some sales and that if this is true any evidence they

uncover might be used for a prosecution.

As Ali tells him this, Barry listens quietly, his mind is racing. Barry has not told Ali that his girlfriend, Eliza, is a System Analyst and Project Manager working for

YBM$.$ Only the other night Eliza had revealed that she had hired a couple of software engineering second year international students who will be paid in cashin$-$hand money for a project. Eliza knew that this was wrong, but it was common practice in the company.
