Basiliscusi are elusive reptiles that are popular as decorative pets. Like many reptiles Basiliscusi have a temperature dependent sex determination system. Basiliscusi are expert hunters, most attack their prey by spitting a highly toxic venom, while some cannot produce venom but attack in other ways. Having venom (Nv*) is dominant to lack of venom (nv). Their appearance is quite intimidating as well. The have large wings with male Basiliscusi always having feathered wings and females having either feathered or scale covered wings. Their tail has either a single parbed point at the end or is forked with two barbed points. The tail can be short, medium or long in size and some rare Basiliscusi are even born tailless. The tail gene is involved in tail length, and there are three known alleles - T (long), TS (short) and t (tailless). Tailless (t) is recessive to both long (TL) and short (TS), and heterozygotes of T' and TS (T'TS) have medium length tails. Basiliscusi feet have large claws. The feet themselves are either grey or black in colour, with grey (G) being dominant to black (g). Their eyes are either yellow or red, with red (R) being dominant to yellow (r), and they have excellent night vision. Basiliscusi are diploid organisms with five different chromosomes. The Basiliscusi genome hasn't been sequenced yet but the location of some genes is known. The genes involved in venom production (Nv), tail ength (T) and foot colour (G) are all on chromosome 1 and the gene involved in eye colour (R) is on chromosome 2.
