(TERM RESEARCH PROJECT)

The research is to focus on three aspects of INDIA with regard to its capacity to develop new technology. The first aspect concerns the energy and natural resources of the country germane to a technology that you select as appearing to have potential for development by that country. Specifically, you need to examine the resources, production, and consumption of energy of the country and provide your reasoning on the capacity and stability of energy use in the country as it relates to the capability of the country to develop the selected technology. You also need to research and assess the natural resources of the country that are primary inputs to the selected technology or the importation of those primary resources. Support you assessment with data and information from your research on the potential for that country to possess, develop, or acquire the energy and natural resources essential for development of the selected technology. A second element of your research regards an analysis of the cultural attributes of the population of the country. Examine the cultural attributes as they pertain to their tendency to promote or reinforce the development of innovative technology. Several aspects of culture will be examined in the course as they pertain to their influence with regard to innovation and technology. Be mindful that many countries do not have homogenous cultures and this complicates such as assessment. The third element of your research concerns the educational capacity of the country that is necessary for a workforce with the capability of both the research & development and production of the selected technology. Education is the essential foundation for the science and technology capability of a society or country. The capacity of a society to either use or develop technology is highly dependent upon the nature and extent of available education and in particular, technological education. A study of the technical education system of a country provides considerable knowledge and insight into the culture of a society as well. The technical education system of a country reveals a great deal about its primary interests, work habits, values, attitudes, and even socio-political priorities. The objective of this part of your research is the development of a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the technological education system of a selected country. You may select the country of focus for the project, but it must be approved by the instructor. It may not be your country of origin. To guide you in the necessary research and analysis for this assignment, it is suggested that you first identify what questions would need to be answered in order to model the technical education of a country. After thoughtful review of these questions, issues, and factors, you will likely find that your research efforts will be more structured and focused that would be the case if you approach the inquiry in an ad hoc, rushed, or open-ended manner. The research paper should include a comprehensive and detailed discussion of the technical education system of the selected country. The focus should not be on the primary education. Rather, the emphasis is to be on technical education starting at ages 12 to 14 and through the post-secondary levels of higher education. Some suggested issues you may want to start with are:

1. What part of the population has access to the various levels of education? 2. How is it financed? 3. How is education valued in the culture? 4. What is the technology base and activity of the country? 5. What is the structure of the education system? 6. What is the governance system of education in the country? 7. What is the operational model of the education? 8. How does technological education and business/industry interact in the country? These need not be the specific questions that you respond to in your report; they are offered only as suggestions to help you start contemplating the problem. Limiting the coverage in the research project to the above stimulus questions will not be considered satisfactory completion of the assignment. You may approach the project and propose to organize the subject in your own preferred manner. Note: A minimum of twenty (20) cited references containing no more than fifteen (15) cited web sources is required to demonstrate adequate research rigor for this project.
