Below is a written description of the process for loading and delivering cars to retailers via truck for a major automotive manufacturer located in Central Tennessee. Using the Visio symbols provided, a flowchart has been constructed.

1. Plant completes production of twelve cars for a retailer in Louisville, KY and releases them to Premier Services for staging in the truckaway yard. At the same time information regarding these cars is released to the carrier via EDI.

2. The carrier plans the load, creates loading documents, and dispatches a driver to load the cars listed on the loading documents.

3. When the driver arrives at the truck away yard he inspects each car for damage and verifies its VIN. If there are no problems the car is loaded. If damage is found, the yard supervisor fills out a damage report and makes arrangements for necessary repairs prior to loading. If a VIN error exists, the yard supervisor investigates and resolves the problem prior to loading.

4. When all 12 cars are loaded, the yard supervisor inspects for loading problems. If no problems are found, the supervisor releases the load. If spacing or tie down problems are found, the driver is instructed to correct them prior to the load being released.

5. When released by the yard supervisor, the driver exchanges the loading documents for the delivery documents and is dispatched to Louisville, KY.

6. When the driver arrives at the retailer he unloads the cars and a retailer representative inspects them for damage. If there are no problems, the retailer signs the delivery documents and receives the cars. If damage is found, the retailer makes notations on the delivery documents and receives the cars. If necessary, a damage claim is filed.
