A reminder of a few key requirements:

- Minimum 5 1/2 pages in length
Unit 3: Research and Annotated Bibliography
Research Overview: For the research component of this course, you will be exploring a problem and proposing a solution. Throughout Unit 3, you will be conducting research and exploring possible barriers to student success as well as possible solutions. You will report out your findings by producing an Annotated Bibliography where you provide readers with a summary and evaluation of the sources you have collected through your exploration of the problem and solution. You need a total of 6 substantive and/or scholarly sources for the research paper that help address your research questions. One of these must provide background information about your group. The other five sources should focus on the barriers they face in education that account for the achievement gap and the possible solutions to close the gap. (1 of the sources you use can be from our Unit 2 readings).
Assignment
Create an Annotated Bibliography on 6 articles you have found in your exploration of barriers to student success as well as possible solutions. Remember 1 source must provide background information about your group. (Minimum 5 full pages) Your Annotated Bibliography must include the following: Correct format for an Annotated Bibliography according to example provided MLA citation for 6 sources A Summary Paragraph (for each article) o It should be a full summary of entire article. It should also be well-organized and fully developed discussion of the author's main argument and key supporting details. Each summary needs to be written primarily in your own words and demonstrate that you have thoroughly read each article and understand the author's main ideas and key points. As noted in Graff and Birkenstein's "The Art of Summarizing," let me see you using action verbs and representing author's ideas fairly and without bias.
Integration of quotes and paraphrase is done well with appropriate page numbers as needed. (No citation information is repeated in summary.)
An Evaluation Paragraph (for each article) o Your evaluation should discuss the usefulness of the article as it relates to how it is addressing a research question. It should also include some discussion of credibility of author and source. When thinking of usefulness, consider how it increases your understanding about a particular group; does it add an insight you hadn't considered, does it include discussion of barriers they face and/or any suggestion of solution? Are the references author uses valuable for further research? Does it provide any useful data, statistics, or graphs? What did it add to your understanding of problem or solution? Did it change the way you think about either. Each evaluation should be a fully developed and well-organized discussion that offers readers some thoughtful discussion on the article.
