Bio-Engineering TED Talk Assignment

1. Paul Wolpe explains that for the first time in history scientists can directly design organisms, then asks the question, "Do we get to create organic robots where we remove the autonomy of the animals and turn them into our play thing?" What are your thoughts on this? Tremendous progress, or bad idea? Explain.

2. Do you believe there should be any non-negotiable guidelines with regard to bioengineering animals? If no, why not? If yes, what is one non-negotiable standard you believe is warranted?

3. With regard to using bioengineering technologies in humans, what do you believe one advantage is for the future of healthcare? What do you believe is one negative effect that could occur?

4. Lastly, this TED talk was given in 2010, and much has occurred since. Please research and provide one insight into the development/evolution of this field since this talk.
