Borrow pit volume question (20 points)
A bor row pit levelling survey was conducted in 5030m area and yielded the following IFS readings (in m) as shown in Figure 2. The area was subdivided into grids using measuring tape. Each grid has a size of 1010m. The soil in the borrow pit will be cut and will be used for road bed.
a. Determine the elevations of the corner of the grids if BM elevation is 100mMSL and the backsight at BM is 0.617m(Tabulate the data.)
b. If only the area inside the boundary (dashed line as shown in Figure 2) to be cut up to 90m MSL, what is the total cut volume in m3 available for the bounded area?
c. After excavation of soil in (b), the soil is being stockpiled before being trucked and then compacted at the road project site. The soil has a swell of 22% and a shrinkage of 17%. What is the volume of the stockpiled soil, and the compacted soil?
d. Assuming there is no further swelling of soil when being trucked from the stockpile to the proposed road bed, determine the number of trucks required to haul the soil if dump trucks have capacity of 15m3.
